Airport, Negombo

Arrive at the Airport & warmly welcomed by Seelaan representative and transfer to Negombo. Check into the hotel and relax.

Negombo, Dambulla, Sigiriya

After breakfast proceed to Anuradhapura.

Today you will visit the ancient city of Anuradhapura, established in 437 BC is the largest of Sri Lanka’s ancient cities of the cultural triangle. En route you will be able to witness the Aukana Buddha statue which was carved out of living rock in the 5th century BC. Followed by a visit to the Kalawewa Tank built in 400 AD. Here you will witness ruins of temples, dagobas and Buddha statues. You will also visit “The Sri Maha Bodi” a giant Bo tree which was a sapling from the Bo tree underneath which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. It is the most frequented Buddhist site of Anuradhapura. The fame of Anuradhapura spread as far as the ancient Roman Hellenistic world and established diplomatic links with China. It was the royal seat to 25 Buddhist and Hindu kings and the preeminent city of the island for 1400 years. If there is sufficient time you will also visit Mihintale which is known to be the cradle of Buddhism.

Anuradhapura, Jaffna

After breakfast leave for Jaffna.

Jaffna the capital of northern Sri Lanka. Jaffna city was established as a colonial administrative center by the Portuguese colonials in 1621. Jaffna District, the northernmost region of the Island of Sri Lanka, is one of the oldest habitation sites in Lower South Asia, populated by Tamil speaking people, it is in close proximity to the sub-continent of India and separated from it by the Palk Strait and the Bay of Bengal.

The peninsula is actually almost an island; only the narrow causeway known as Elephant Pass - for once elephants did wade across the shallow lagoon here connects Jaffna with the rest of Sri Lanka. Jaffna is low lying; much of it covered by shallow lagoons, and has a number of interesting islands dotted offshore.

Most of the areas in Jaffna are dry and sandy, and the most common tree is the palmyra palm with its elegant fan-like fronds. Locals here tap it for toddy, the sap from its cut flowers; like the sap of the coconut or kittul palms, this liquid can be distilled to make arrack or processed into juggery, palm sugar.

Jaffna, Trincomalee

Trincomalee is a port city in Eastern Province, Sri Lanka and lies on the east coast of the island, about 113 miles south of Jaffna. It has a population of approximately 100,000 (2007 The city is built on a peninsula, which divides the inner and outer harbours. Overlooking the Kottiyar Bay. The city is home to the famous ancient Koneswaram temple.

The beaches are used for surfing, scuba diving, fishing and whale watching. The city also has the largest Dutch fort in Sri Lanka. It is home to major Sri Lankan naval bases and a Sri Lankan Air Force base.

Trincomalee

Option to do a Dolphin and Whale watching expedition. Later in the evening visit Trincomalee city and the famous Hindu temple.

Trincomalee, Ampara

Ampara which is bustling with enthusiastic beach goers and nature lovers! Hence you’ll find remnants of palaces and monasteries that once sheltered thousands of Arhants and Stupas. Although the town has a history steeped in culture it’s also home to one of the world’s best surfing spots Arugam Bay, where International surfing competitions are often held. Ampara Galoya district was a hunters' resting place during British colonial days (late 1890s and early 1900).

The districts is also speckled with a few sanctuaries such as the Lahugala Kitulana National Park, and the Gal Oya National Park. These parks are home to a variety of majestic animals and are adorned with beautiful plant species. It’s interesting to note that Ampara was initially a residence for construction workers and eventually under the Galoya scheme developed by Prime Minister D.S. Senanayake became a town.

  • Budhngala Monastery.

Ampara, Mahiyanganaya

Mahiyanganaya is a town situated close to the Mahaweli River Badulla District, Uva Province of Sri Lanka. Mahiyanganaya is not well known among tourists, yet has many historically and religiously important places of interest worth visiting. Though the area is predominantly known for its Veddha population, an indigenous group of people believed to be the original inhabitants of the island, Mahiyanganaya also has a strong Buddhist heritage with ancient temples well worth visiting.

Mahaweli, Sri Lanka`s longest river also flows through Mahiyanganaya. There is also the Sorabora tank which is a man made historical wonder and by travelling a little further you can visit the Wasgamuwa Wild Life Sanctuary. Camping site near Sorabora Wewa.

Mahiyanganaya, Kandy

After breakfast Leave for Kandy the 3rd and the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a World Heritage Site. The name "Kandy" conjures visions of splendor and magnificence. Many of the legends, traditions and folklore are still lovingly kept alive. Drive around the Kandy lake built by the last Sinhala king, Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe in 1798. Visit the Kandy town and bazaar, the arts and crafts centre, a gem museum and a lapidary. Also visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy and visit the cultural show.

Visit Peradeniya botanical garden which was first built as a pleasure garden by King Wickramabahu III a Sinhala king around the year 1371 and was expanded by the British. It is renowned for the collection the variety of Orchids, and has more than 300 varieties of Orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palms trees attach it is the National Herbarium. One tree with a significant history is the Cannon Ball Tree planted by King George V of the United Kingdom and Queen Mary in 1901. It also used during the Second World War by Lord Louis Mountbatten, the supreme commander of the allied forces in the South Asia as the headquarters of the South East Asia Command.
